Colorado
Slow start to harvest; majority will start two weeks later than normal around September 14, 2009. This is mainly due to Mother Nature’s cold mornings and cool days. This has really stagnated growth. This leads to another opportunity and that is the bulking up stage which normally occurs during the last month of growth. The fear is even though we have had exceptional growing conditions the last two weeks have been cooler than normal. But we do fear if the potatoes do not bulk up and we will see a cheap poly market and possibly a short crop.
Kansas
Almost all but done with the exception of one grower, he just started Monday and his size is way off. Kansas will be completed in mid September with 80,000 sacks in storage.
Montana
Will not start packing until harvest is complete late October 1st of November.
